Introduction

Eurocontrol has launched three projects with the objective to stimulate the introduction of APV operations based on EGNOS and thus to gain experience in the implementation of such procedures.  In the real implementation of APV/SBAS procedures lessons will be learned that will contribute to the development of guidance material that can be used by States who want to implement such procedures.
These three projects in France, Poland and the UK are supported by European Commission TEN-T funding.  The objectives of all the projects are the same:

• Identification of airport(s) where the EGNOS APV procedures can provide benefits
• Identification of aircraft operator(s) ready to install the required avionics
• Design of SBAS APV procedures
• Equip aircraft with SBAS avionics
• Airworthiness certification and operational approval
• Flight demonstration of the procedures
• Implementation Safety Case
• Business case for the airport(s) and the operator(s)
• Awareness and dissemination of results
