P-RNAV Approval Information for OPERATORS

The Precision RNAV approval requirements are set out in JAA TGL-10. A number of question have arisen regarding certain requirements expressed in TGL-10. To clarify these issues, and to provide further TGL-10 explanatory guidance, EUROCONTROL in co-operation with JAA have developed "P-RNAV Approval Guidance Information". Below is an indication of the contents of this document. The document can be dowloaded electronically from this site (pdf). If you would like to receive a paper copy of the guidance, please send your request to prnav@eurocontrol.int with your mailing address.

Contents:

P-RNAV

This section is written to give a basic introduction to Precision Area Navigation (P-RNAV).

Airworthiness and Operational Approval

The diagram in section 2 is to assist operators in the process to achieve P-RNAV airworthiness & operational approval on aircraft where the Original Equipment Manufacturer has stated that its range of aircraft models & variants are compliant with TGL10. EUROCONTROL will maintain a record of aircraft types that have been given P-RNAV airworthiness and operational approval by the State of Registry. The record will be updated on advice from either the State or Operator and will be held on the web at Approval Status.

Navigation Database Integrity

The navigation database should be obtained from an approved supplier. It is expected that data service providers will be subject to regulatory oversight and accredited by August 2005 onwards. Until such approval has been obtained by navigation database providers, operators must have a method in place to assure data integrity for P-RNAV procedures. The flow diagram as shown is a suggested process that can be used by the Operator to ensure continuous integrity monitoring.

JAA TGL10 Interpretative Material

TGL10 criteria specify a number of functions for a P-RNAV aircraft installation. Diagrams in section 4 illustrate how these functions may be distributed within the aircraft navigation system.

FAQ

The JAA CNS/ATM working group have compiled a list of frequently asked questions (FAQs) together with appropriate responses. These FAQ are intended to help OEM, Installers, Operators & State Regulators in forming judgements on acceptability of some aircraft installations and operations.

The FAQs can also be considered as TGL10 interpretative material.
