ATC Training Support for TMA RNAV - Electronic Training Package
AREA NAVIGATION IN EUROPEAN TERMINAL CONTROL AREAS (TMAs) has been developed by EUROCONTROL as generic training support material to enable controllers to understand the implementation and use of area navigation (RNAV) in the departure and arrival phases of flight. This package will be supplemented by local ATC training, which will highlight specific local implementation factors and issues. However, the content of this package will provide all stakeholders with a good understanding of P-RNAV and its use in Terminal airspace.

Performance Based Navigation (PBN) Training Course
Methods of aircraft navigation have advanced dramatically over recent years. The ICAO Performance Based Navigation (PBN) concept has superseded the RNP concept. What are the changes between the PBN and RNP concepts? Why have we changed? How will PBN affect European strategic plans?
During 2007 and 2008, ICAO delivered regional briefings on the PBN concept. EUROCONTROL together with the FAA helped develop and deliver this regional training and now the EUROCONTROL Institute of Air Navigation Services is providing a modified delivery of this course more directly aimed at ECAC to enhance PBN awareness.

Performance Based Navigation (PBN) Electronic Training Awareness Package
This updated web-based training package, originally designed to support International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) 'Performance Based Navigation Manual' (ICAO Doc 9613 Edition 3), has been enhanced to provide information on what PBN is and how to implement it. This training package is designed for all personnel involved in Air Traffic Management (ATM) and this includes Airspace Planners, Procedure Design staff, Air Traffic Control (ATC) staff, Aircraft Operators (AOs), Flight Operations, Regulatory Agencies and is aimed at both civil and military personnel. The package consists of 3 modules:
- 'Using the WBT' explains how to navigate through the training package
- 'Performance Based Navigation' gives an overview of Performance Based Navigation (PBN).
- 'Enabling PBN Implementation' discusses some of the major considerations that must be addressed in implementing PBN.
'Enabling PBN Implementation' module is also planned to be used as a pre-requisite for the ICAO PBN Airspace workshops that will take place over 2010-2012.

GNSS Course
Will GNSS ever become the ‘sole means’ navigation service? What does this mean? Can the current satellite systems be improved and what are the enhancements required to make the system acceptable for civil aviation use? What is the aviation view on satellite navigation?
This course is designed to give a clear explanation of satellite constellations used for navigation, signal structures, system errors and a full explanation of the different types of augmentation that can be applied. The course will look at the current limitations of satellite systems and reviews the GNSS vulnerabilities. The course will also include discussion of future planned improvements to GPS and GLONASS and will review the progress of GALILEO.

SBAS and GBAS Data Evaluation using PEGASUS
The PEGASUS tool has been developed by EUROCONTROL for data evaluation in support of stakeholder activities to validate the performance of SBAS and GBAS systems. To learn how to use this extensive toolset, a training course and Tutorial material have been produced. The training course is held on demand with an Agenda adapted to the participants needs and the tutorial introduces the typical tasks, such as static and flight data evaluation, report generation and error simulation. Please refer to the PEGASUS page for more information. The LATO OneSky team allows access to the tool, the tutorial and sample data sets.
